Yesterday..

Yesterday we spent the day working with someone from the bbc, who came in and showed us interview techniques and the correct ways to use a video camera.
Personally, the most important thing I learned yesterday was how to do a sequence, which is a series of shots using a video camera.

1.Close up of activity
2.Close up of face
3.Wide shot, including surroundings
4.Over the shoulder shot, puts viewer into perspective
5.Creative shot

We also learned that when filming interviews it is important to have all three eyes on the same level, the interviewer, the interviwee and the camera.

I will be taking this into consideration when filming our documentry.

Documentry

After discussions with our group, we have all been assigned different roles within the group. I have been assigned the role of Director.
I have already begun coming up with ideas of how I want our documentry to appear, and deciding in what order the scenes are going to go.
Later this week, we plan on having our scenes planned out with photos from the spots we plan on filming. I will post them up soon as possible

When I was working within the Media Operations Department for the British Forces Cyprus, there was a member of staff missing from the Cyprus Lifestyle Magazine department. Due to the magazine being printed within the next week, they needed someone to create designs for several adverts having information published in the magazine. I was asked to create these designs using Adobe Indesign. After a few hours training I managed to create the designs and they were published in time for the printing of the magazine.

Networking

“The essential point of networking is human contact. Business has killed networking by making it for the career orientated person”

Networking has created new ways for people to communicate and share information. It is now possible for people to communicate from across the globe using facebook and other such networking sites. I don't feel as though business has killed networking, but merely created another way for people to communicate. People are now able to use networking for their business and for their social life and because of this I feel that networking in a social aspect has been improved by business networking.

Belly

I recently saw a film which I havn't seen in a long time, and it reminded me of how good the opening scene was. It's a film called Belly, starring DMX, Nas and Method Man. I really like the effects they have used in the opening scene while walking into a nightclub. The have used a neon lighting effects, so white objects appear to be very bright, along with them wearing special contact lenses so that the actors eyes appear to glow. all of the sound in the scene has been taken out, except for an accapela of a song called However do you want it.

Back to school.....

We have finally got the internet set up at our house, so i can finally put something on my blog.
On returning to Uni, we have been assigned a task to film and edit a 4 minute character study documentry.
We have chosen ours to be about a recoverd drug addict in Nottingham, with an insight into how drugs are effecting the community and also interviews with the police to find out how they are resolving the issues.
Our production is still at an early stage and we are still planning out ideas, but we already have an idea of how we want our documentry to appear. We are going to use a dark contrast of colours; grey,black and white are the main colours we want to use with lots of camera shots of urban run down areas. The soundtrack will be a song by TRC called hell on earth, which is a very basic hiphop beat.
There is a program on television tonight called "Me,My Mum & Heroin" which we will use for inspiration. We will be taking images around nottingham, and try and find potential filming spots over the next week.
