Winter Break
I'm now 3/4's of the way through winter vacation and have only just arrived home for christmas. This is the reason i have been unable to post anything on my blog, due me only being able to travel home for xmas yesterday due to passport problems. Because of this the whole vacation turned into a bit of a nightmare. I have however come to an arrangement with my friend to make a new Onetouchables film next summer. On my next post I post all details, once we have a complete idea of what the film will be about.

Look at and describe an object. Visual Asthetics
These images are of my sound system in my car. They are 2, 12" Infinity Kappa Perfect 12's. Powered by a 800 watt Visonik amplifier.
The two sub woofers have 350 RMS wattage, and dual voice coil and can run at a maximum of1400 Watts. Due to the size of the sub, i am now unable to put anything bigger than a pair of shoes my boot. It measures up at 35"X16"X16".
I have put two silver guards over the subs for protection. However they can sometimes cause rattleing. The subs are held in by nails to a simple ply wood box, covered in a special carpet material which helps amplify the sound and stop the box vibrating. I then drilled the amplifier into the back of the sub box, and connected the wars throughout the inside of my car into the back of the head unit.
All together my entire system cost between 600-700 pounds including shipping costs and labour on wireing everything up.

One Shot Film
For the final production of my one shot film, I have decided to take narration from two films and use them over the backing music for my production. The main narration, has been taken from the film "Donnie Brasco", in a scene where Johnny Depp was being asked what "Fuhgettabout it" meant. I have chosen this because it has 3 characters interracting with one another, and it fits my production well in terms of being in New York/New Jersey in the 1970's. The second narration i have chosen is from the film Goodfellas. It is a simple one sentence quote which I will use right at the end of my production, on just a black screen.
I have chosen both of these because I am creating my one shot film as if it were one scene taken from a film based on one guy, and the film is from his perspective. In my one shot film, that person is me and I would like to give my audience the impression that I am telling my story.

One Shot Film
Today we filmed our one shot film. We filmed it without sound, as we are having a narative over the soundtrack. Our filming lasts around 1 minute, and we plan on slowing it down to last 1 minute 30.
We shot the film 5 - 6 times, to try and get the film exactly how we wanted it, and to ensure it lasted the required time.
We brought along props, such as a round table into the studio, a pack of cards, poker chips and some bottles of alcahol. 3 of us wore suits, and i was casually dressed to give the impression of an underground/illegal poker game. We tried to create the set too look as if it was filmed in a run down low key building. Here are some photos of the set.

One Shot Film
Last week we were assigned the task of creating a one shot film. We were put into groups of 4-5 and told to come up with an idea for the film, where it would be shot and take into consideration lighting and sound effects.
We decided to base our production on a 1970's style New York/New Jersey Poker game, with myself doing the narration. We are having a rehersal on monday, i will take photos of the set and upload them onto my blog.

Visual Narcotics final product
I have recently finished my still picture animation. I am unable it to youtube as the file is too big. I have it saved to memory stick on request. My film is approximatly 2 minutes long as i wanted it to last the majority of the soundtrack.

Monday 29th October
After meeting with my group on friday of last week, we discovered where we went wrong with our project. We realised that we were not creating a new folder for the pictures on the desktop, and this is why there wasn't enough space on the hard drive to save the new set of images.
Once we had finished editing and saving the pictures we individualy added them to our timeline. I decided to call my movie Visual Narcotics, this is because of the soundtrack I have selected to use, and the visual effects I am going to use.

Photoshop example
Here is a picture of my home city in Switzerland. I have edited the picture in Photoshop in a similar way that we will edit the photos for our still picture project.
For our project we want to make the photos look dated, as if the pictures were taken 50 - 100 years ago. Here is an example of how we want
the photos to look.

Tuesday 22nd October
Following the previous lecture of having to upload, re-size and edit the images, we would now add the images to a timeline and include sound effects and a soundtrack.
Once our group had arrived in the class, we realised that the location where we had saved our work from the previous week was no longer there due to the fact that we saved it to our desktop, rather than create a new folder in "My Documents". We didn't see this as too much of a problem, as we would listen to what Andy had to say at the begining of the class, and then go about re-sizing the images again as it didn't take to long to do.
Once Andy had finished instructing the class on how to go about inserting the images onto a timeline, we would then begin re-sizing the images again.
We attempted re-sizing the images several times, on a couple of ocassions we realised that we had simply made errors while trying to save the images. We then changed to work on a different computer and repeated the same process. After repeating this several times, the same error message continued to re-occur. We then agreed it would be better for our group to meet out of class on Thursday and try to resolve the problem, if the problem persisted we would attend the afternoon surgery session. I will post up the results of this dilema!!

Still Picture Animation
Following the whiteboard animation, we were put into groups of 4 and 5 and assigned the task of producing a still picture animation. We were told that we had to capture a sequence of frames that assumes a frame rate of 12 shots per second for a 30 second piece.
Once we had been put into our groups, we decided on the theme of our production after watching some videos what had been previously made. We then went out and shot our film over a 2 day period.
In our next class, we were then assigned the task to re-size the images and add effects to the pictures using facebook so they can be added to a timeline.
We will be doing this in our next class,
Thanks

Whiteboard animation
On the 4th October we were assigned to task to create a small animation on a whiteboard using a standard camera. Guidelines were set as to what was required of us in making the video.
We were told there would be a small tree and a box, and we would have to make the animation so that the box would start on one side of the tree and end on the other side. The rest was up to our imagination!
After some steady planning we came to an agreement on how we were going to go about this task.
The final product can be viewed at- http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7ugv-ZZ2jCU
our production is 2:05 into the video.
Thanks

Joes University Work 1st Year
hi,
I am currently about to start my 4th week of my multimedia course at nottingham trent university. I will regularly update my profile as my course progresses.
Previous to my course, myself and a friend had created a personal movie site (www.onetouchables.tk), similar to youtube which contained videos we had created and edited ourselves. It was originaly for a school project, but after we recieved large intrest, including an insurance company in Holland called WeDare.com, we kept updating the sites which now allows you to stream a large selection of movies, as well as the public to post their own.
all legally of course.....
anyway, i will regularly be updating my blog as the year goes on so feel free to brouse my work, and leave feedback,
thanks,
Joe
